Club Meeting 23rd May 2006
(Kev Baxter - Secretary)

Would, “Strength-to-strength”, be a cliché, they wondered, after another 5 new faces arrived in the Club for the May meeting?  Well, strictly, only if everybody that joins can attend every evening we have a meeting; although, we still had the very ‘fat-end’ of 20 members with apologies from a couple of the ‘Colchester Boys’ and Alan, who had some lame excuse about becoming a Dad at any moment – he’ll learn to get out of the house when he can soon enough!  Nevertheless, a warm  welcome was extended to, and in no particular order: Russell McKee, Dave’s son-in-law, who has been re-infected by the bug after Valerie made him assemble one of Dave’s cast-offs (or something, not entirely sure of the details; who cares so long as the plastic gets on the shelf?); Peter Richardson, who some of you might know from the show-scene since he is actively involved in taking our ‘hard-earned’ from us on the Little Wheels stand; Nick Whife, who brought along a fine 1/48th scale F-5E ‘Aggressor’ just to dispel the theory that not everyone who joins us from the docks builds ‘targets’; Mark Van Osdol, another ‘tame’ Colonial whom we welcome back to our shores – hopefully for good this time - since he has just retired from the service of ‘Uncle Sam’ and he has settled in Thetford and finally to Kelvin English, who unfortunately disappeared before the Secretary could have a chat with him!  Welcome all.

 EAMC

The response received from other clubs to our invitation to join us for the EAMC has been muted.  However, we are expecting ‘a variable number’ of visitors from probably 5 different clubs so therefore, the members of our Club were requested to help out as much as possible on Friday 2 Jun 06 to ensure that the evening runs smoothly and our guests enjoy a good welcome – and then we trounce them in the competition.  Setting-up will take place from about 15:30 onwards and the evening will formally finish at about 22:00.  Then the party starts, or B – we all crash-out completely knackered…

 EAMS

As Show Co-ordinator, the Chairman informed us that he will not be able to attend the EAMS on 1 Oct 06 due to work commitments.  Therefore, it would appear that the Secretary has been ‘dicked’ to pick up the slack on the day.  Happy days!

SMW THEME “RIVER DEEP - MOUNTAIN HIGH”

The list for themed build continues to grow and a copy is attached at Annex A.  Members are requested to add/amend any suggestions they might have for the theme with a build completion deadline proposed for the EAMS in Oct, so that we have time to alter any problems, such as plumbing leaks and crashed lap-tops (did we mention our ‘water-feature’ and video clips of Mirages –delta jets, a ‘double whammy’ there then - ‘blatting’ through the Alps amongst other things?) before the Nationals.

 SBX - ADVERTISEMENT BREAK

Dave has introduced a discount card at the shop so that our burgeoning numbers can be recognised by Valerie when Dave’s not in.  That says something doesn’t it?  Members are requested to show their card when purchasing items at the shop so that our splendid discount can be applied without us causing embarrassment by begging.

The 6 hour build venue has been changed to the Club-room from Tuddenham Hall since they won’t be charging £50 and the bar will be open all afternoon.  Last chance everyone, call Dave to book your place for the Great Drunken (or, is that just Dom and Me?) Modelling Afternoon; only £9.50 – snacks, model and paints supplied.

 AOB

Boxted Show.  Bob Trimnell has once again invited the club to display at the Boxted Show on 9-10 Sep 06.  This can be counted upon to be a good time whatever the weather, so members are encouraged to attend.

Lavenham Show.  The show at Lavenham for the 1 Jul 06 has been cancelled due to the local council requiring £10000 for a license to pitch a tent on someone’s field, serve beer and have a band!
