RANSOMES SPORTS AND SOCIAL CLUB

MEETING 18

24 APRIL 2007

In attendance: 28 members. Apologies: Paul and Andy.

No new faces this evening, but plenty of old ones – quite literally in Dave’s case and did you know Dom was 40 in November; imagine being 40 again…

The Secretary requested funds to be made available for the hire of the Station minibus at Wattisham to ferry attendees at the Base Visit on 2 June 2007. The cost was to be £30 refundable deposit, £40 hire charge and the cost of diesel. There were no objections raised and the funds were voted through. Mike G indicated that anyone requesting accommodation for the Competition book early as it clashes with the beginning of the Suffolk Show! Thanks were voted to Mike for sorting this out. The Competition Secretary reiterated that he would be sunning himself on holiday at the time of the EAMC, therefore the Secretary undertook to cover for him.

SHOWS ‘N’ STUFF

Hinckley. Stu, Dom and Kev attended Hinckley on 22 April 2007. The fortuitous loss of the other 6 attendees meant that the Chairman and Secretary then had a legitimate excuse not to have to attend the IPMS AGM up the road that afternoon! The 12’ double-depth tables were still filled, thanks to a few boxes of models from other Club Members. Dom and Kev triumphed in the competition class; well, they put some 1/72 scale stuff into the Competition and everyone else saw it and ran off apparently as they were the only 3 models remaining! Sadly despite trying twice as hard with his egg-beaters, Dom lost out to the far superior accuracy and finish of Kev’s superbly executed F-100D model – loser! (Who writes this?) The other classes were better populated with models suggesting that people’s eyesight is really getting bad! This time the Secretary only smashed 6 models in his collection transporting them to yet another show, 2 almost irreparably - good going and always a handy way to make space in the cabinet; anyone else fancy a go next time?

King’s Lynn. The King’s Lynn Club is looking to have a show in 2008, to which we indicated that we would like to attend; more details will be forthcoming when known.

RAF Marham. The visit to RAF Marham has been arranged for Thursday 3 May 07. The 2 Clubs will meet at Beyton Bus Shelter at 09:30 for those wishing to attend the Private Arms Collection in Beyton and Swaffham town centre car-park at 13:30 for the RAF Marham visit.

Club Talk – Stan Hodgekins. The talk by the former Martin Baker test pilot and Lightning jockey, Stan Hodgekins has been arranged for Thursday 24 May 2007 at 20:00. Attendees (friends are invited – Club membership not required) are requested to assemble in the bar of the Cedars Hotel, Stowmarket, at 19:30 onwards. The Club will pay for half of the room and a ‘whip-round’ will be requested for Stan to give to a charity of his choice / retirement fund. The Cedars can be found here:

AOB
