Club Meeting
28th March 2006
(Kev Baxter -
Secretary)
It’s official; we
really have almost outgrown our ‘optimum’ venue! There were 22 of
us in attendance, which was nice because it kept the officious chat
to a minimum since half the people had to stand around the table.
Moreover, it might be time to sit around the pool table and put the
huge number of models on the ‘committee table’ such was the amount
of plastic on display. A warm welcome was extended to Robert Price,
another tanker-winker for Paul and Bob to play with;
and boy, what great models he brought along. The aerophiles have
got some serious competition – fantastic, we love it!
SUBBYS
A subby was held at the Royal George between
meetings. It was reported as a ‘quiet affair’ causing some
suspicion with the Chairman’s ‘Better Half’, who surmised correctly
that the Secretary had not been involved. I don’t know what to
say! There is every chance that another subby will be held
shortly. Perhaps it is time to elect a Subby Sub-committee?
Answers on a postcard to...
Southern
Expo. Several members attended the Southern Expo, making its welcome
return. Sadly, we were unable to display and it was something of a
shock to have to pay to get in to a show! Nevertheless, models were
appreciated, plastic was traded; generally, small flat pieces for
large cardboard boxes full of the stuff and the pub-lunch was very
convivial – if a little uniform, “7 bacon-burgers please and the
same number of pints.” Fourty-seven flyers for the EAMC were taken
and every club stand was canvassed for support. We await the
replies.
6-HOUR BUILD
David
Penningtonwas still developing the idea
for the 6-hour build competition; he assures us that he will report
to the Club shortly when he has had a bit more of a think.
PARISH
NOTICES
Orfordness. The visit to Orfordness has been
confirmed for Fri 19 May 06. The cost is £9 and be prepared to
‘hoof it’ for a few miles. It will be worth every penny and
blister! Clearly, beer and curry/chinky/chips will be involved on
the way home.
Drink! Please don’t lean over the pool table
with your beers. It just takes one accidental spillage to ensure
that the table will be ruined; furthermore, there’s the damage to
the pool table to think about too!
Subs.
It was decided that we should introduce a register to ensure that
our subs are paid each evening. With the rapid and highly
delightful growth of the Club’s numbers it has been getting a bit
too much for Rob to have to spend the entire evening strong-arming
the quids out of everyone. Hopefully, this solution will encourage
everyone to cough-up with slightly more dignity.
SHOWS
DIARY
Ipswich
Transport Museum. The short-notice allocation of space at the
Ipswich Transport Museum show on 24 Mar 06 had to be declined due to
lack of participants, this was a shame but, unavoidable in the
circumstances. Nevertheless, we should strive to make this a
fixture on the Club calendar in the future as it is an excellent
vehicle to demonstrate the Club’s activities.
IPMS
AGM. The IPMS AGM will be held on Sun 23 Apr 06, somewhere near
Birmingham – we haven’t been there, but we will probably find it!
Dom and Kev indicated that they will attend. The AGM is held on the
same day as the Hinckley Show, so it would be churlish not to pop in
on the way wouldn’t it? Any further takers, please contact the
Secretary.
Beltring. The
Chairman confirmed that the hotel for the Beltring Show on Fri 21
Jul 06 has been booked.
IPMS
Brampton. The Secretary has received an invitation to the
IPMS Brampton show, held at St Neots, on Sun 3 Sep 06. Bob, Dom,
Jan, Kev, Marc, Rob, Jim and Andy indicated that would like to
attend. The Secretary undertook to ensure that IPMS Brampton was
contacted.
