AGM Newsletter + Minutes – Jan 2008Welcome to the AGM/ Jan 2008 edition of the newsletter, a slightly different (read – expedient) format this month, with plans for changes and a return to photos and familiarity in the Feb edition. To bring everyone up to speed on “editorship”, despite attempting to get into the AGM earlier (some people saw the premature departure on blue lights!!) I made it into the room after the meeting had closed, and in discussion with Dom and Jan I offered to take on part of the secretary’s role and produce the newsletter; needless to say this was accepted. From the AGM this month, BIG THANKS to the retiring committee, and whilst the minutes (Thanks Kelv) and “on the table” are included in full, the individual officer reports and new club rules etc. are being held over until February. In the meantime if anyone’s got something to say, wants to write a short show report, needs a piece, decal or kit, is looking for advice or has a “gem of gen” let me know and I’ll see what space we have in the new format. Minutes of the Annual General Meeting of the IPSWICH branch of the International Plastic Modellers Society (IPMS)Members attending 24 Apologies Kev Baxter The meeting opened at 20:37 1. The Chairman opened the meeting and thanked all the attendee’s for turning up. He offered the Secretary’s apology; he had to work and could not get out of it. The Chairman then went through the agenda 2. The Chairman’s report was read out (by the Chairman) and he picked out the following pertinent points; the club was in its third year and was thriving with an average of 25 - 30 people attending every month. He mentioned that the club stand won Third place at the Telford show and thanked Rob, Kevin, Kelvin and Ian for their hard work in producing such a fine work of art. He also thanked David from SBX for his continued and valuable support to the club. A complete transcript of the Chairman’s report will be included in the next news letter. 3. The treasurer then gave his report. The club is a little better off than at first thought with a closing balance for the year of £282. He stated that should anyone want a copy of the financial statement then they would be available from the treasurer. A copy of the financial Report will also be incorporated into the next news letter. 4. Dom then went on to thank the officers of the club, Kev as Secretary, Rob as Treasurer, Steve as Competition Secretary and Kelvin as Show Secretary. He then announced that sadly Rob and Kev had decided to step down from their posts. 5. A Vote was held to decide who would be the next treasurer. There was only one candidate – Sonia Maes. She was proposed by Kelvin and seconded by Mike. Vote carried unanimously. Sonia Maes is now the new treasurer of IPMS IPSWICH 6. A Vote was held to decide who would be the next Competition secretary. There was only one candidate – Steve. He was proposed by Jan and Seconded by Dom. Vote carried unanimously. Steve will stay as Competition Secretary 7. A Vote was held to decide who would be the next Show secretary. There was only one candidate – Kelvin. He was proposed by Dom and Seconded by Rob. He was proposed by Eric and seconded by Brian. Vote carried unanimously. 9. There should have been a vote for Club secretary, however there where no candidates forthcoming. There was a plea from the Chairman for members to consider this very important post within the club. Until a suitable candidate comes forward Dom and Kelvin will share the job with a kind offer from Jan to produce the monthly newsletter. 10. The club had initially needed a set of Club Rules in order to open a Bank Account. These rules where put together quickly and did not altogether provide a satisfactory set of Rules. Over the last couple of months a new set of rules have been written and updated with input from various members. Now these rules had been completed it was time to vote on their adoption. The motion was proposed by Dom and seconded by David. The Vote was carried unanimously. The Treasurer was requested to lodge a copy of the rules with the Bank. A set of the new rules will also be incorporated into the next newsletter. 11. One of the Club Secretary’s jobs was to list and collate all the models on the table each club night. David said that he was quite happy to carry on taking photos of the models but would not have the time to do the listing. Jan offered to take on this mantle along with publishing the newsletter. 12. Finally, the model of the year was presented. In 3rd Place was George Robinson with 18 points for his RAF Phantom In 2nd Place was Eric Dyke with 21 points for his scratch built model of HMS Abercrombie In 1st Place was Jon Kelly with 27 point for his 1/72 scale model of a Felixstowe.
